Supporting Scaleable, Equitable Climate Solutions

ZEIC funds innovative projects that help the Metro Vancouver region—and other urban regions in British Columbia—reach their net-zero 2050 targets.

How We Fund

Through grants and impact investing, we fund scaleable, equitable, low-carbon solutions that support the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, mobilize capital and people, and generate other benefits for communities in the Metro Vancouver region.

Grants

Projects target the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions directly or indirectly—or set the stage for future reduction initiatives—and while doing so they strive to foster the many benefits of cleaner, healthier our communities. Projects incorporate equity and reconciliation priorities, and strengthen communities through capacity building, networking, and collaboration.

A dedicated stream of grants prioritizes projects that are informed by, benefit, include, and/or are led by equity deserving or Indigenous communities.

Impact Investing

We invest in catalytic ventures and funds that support the transition to a low carbon economy. Our impact investment thesis is focused on achieving durable environmental and social impacts in addition to financial return so that we can apply that profit back into the pursuit of our mandate.

What We Fund

We support projects that focus on key sectors in urban areas in BC—and that generate capacity for action.

Sectoral Focus

Low carbon buildings
Low carbon transportation
Urban renewable energy solutions

Geographic Focus

Metro Vancouver region and other urban areas in British Columbia.

Mobilizing Capital

Initiatives catalyze new investments, “crowd in” other funding and resources, and leverage additional funds.

Capacity Building

Initiatives unlock human capital, building capacity in people, networks, and organizations. Initiatives support champions, early adopters, and leaders or activate those less engaged in decarbonization solutions.

What We Aim For

We support projects that generate impact in key areas

Carbon Reductions

Projects generate direct, indirect, or potential reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

Community Benefits

Projects incorporate a variety of co-benefits, including protecting the environment, promoting health, enabling social connections, improving affordability, and bolstering the economy.

Equity & Indigenous Focus

Projects are informed by, benefit, include, and/or are led by equity-deserving or Indigenous communities.

Scale Potential

Projects go beyond direct and immediate impacts by striving to incorporate scalability approaches, such as policy, standards, or regulations changes; market-level solutions; cross-sector collaboration; or systems-level behavioural change.
